San Jose City

WELCOME TO COSTA RICA

Arrival at the San Jose International Airport where you will be met by our tour guide as you step off your plane. And you will be taken to the hotel Best Western Plus San Jose which is located a 10 minute ride by Van from the airport. There you will spend your first night in Costa Rica.

Accommodations here are provided in a non-smoking “garden and pool view Plus room” with a king bed or 2 double size beds, bathroom with hot water and tub, hair dryer, bath robe and sleepers. Plus air conditioning, Cable TV, phone line, alarm clock radio, desk and chair, free unlimited local and international calls, high speed Wi-Fi internet access, coffee maker with coffee and tea bags, iron with Ironing table, safety box, free use of any of the hotel’s meeting rooms, and 24 hour room service.

Savegre Cloud Forest

At 9 AM, after breakfast, you will join a full day private tour in Doka Estate, Poas Volcano National Park and La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
  
Doka Estate is a world renowned coffee plantation in Costa Rica. Here you will learn about the ancient farming techniques used to produce one of the best Gourmet coffees in the world.

You will see the whole process involved in the cultivation, harvesting and roasting of Costa Rica´s Golden Coffee Bean.  And you are even invited to collect coffee beans off the plants with the staff of the farm.  The tour in Doka Estate includes entrance to the park, a welcome cocktail, a guided tour in the coffee plantation and free personal consumption of the Doka brand gourmet coffee, and coffee based liquors and chocolates made from the coffee beans. The duration for this tour is about 60 minutes.
  
After Doka, we’ll visit the Poas Volcano.  Here you will see the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumarols, the beautiful Botos lagoon and the exuberant flora and fauna that inhabit this national park. The duration for this tour is about 60 minutes.
  
Later we`ll visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens where you will have a walk on your own to the many attractions on the property, including 5 breathtaking waterfalls, a large butterfly farm, a hummingbird garden, a frog and snake garden, and a feline farm. A buffet lunch served in the restaurant on the complex is included.
  

At the end of tour, you will be transported to the small village of San Gerardo of Dota in the middle of the Savegre Cloud Forest (This is a 2 and half hour ride by deluxe van).

Upon your arrival in San Gerardo of Dota, you will check in at the Hotel Suria.  Your accommodations here will be in a spacious standard room featuring one double bed, or one double bed and a twin bed, plus a bathroom with hot water, a hair dryer, and a heater to raise the temperature of the room at night, and a porch with rocking chairs or benches and beautiful views of the hotel gardens.

Also included in your stay at Hotel Suria is a daily Costa Rican style breakfast.

The hotel has lush tropical gardens and a private reserve which is visited daily by many birds, including the Quetzal bird, and other exotic wildlife.  A full service restaurant and bar is open from 7 a.m. to 9 pm, and free WI-FI internet access in common areas is also available.

+ A guided tour exclusively to watch for the Quetzal bird, starting at 6 AM - which is the best time to watch the most quantity of Quetzal birds - and with a duration of 2 hours. This tour includes professional naturalist guide, professional equipment for bird watching, and a cup of coffee and cookies served before the starting of tour.  At the end of tour, you will enjoy of a delicious breakfast served at hotel restaurant.

+ A guided tour to watch the Quetzal and the other +170 species of birds that live in the area of Dota. This tour starts at 9:30 AM and has a duration of about 2 and half hours.

This tour includes professional naturalist guide, and professional equipment for bird watching.

+ A horseback riding tour to enjoy of the beauty of the valley and forest of DOTA. This tour has a duration of 2 hours, leaving from the hotel at 9:30 AM or 2 PM, and includes professional tour guide, and well mannered horses.

Back in the hotel from your tour, the rest of the day is at your leisure for relaxing and enjoy the hotel amenities and grounds.

Uvita Beach

At 8:30 AM, after breakfast, you will be transported to beautiful Uvita beach on the Costa Rican Pacific Coast for a stay of 2 nights in the middle of the rainforest but a short drive to the beach.

On the way to Uvita, we’ll make a Stop at Nauyaca Waterfalls for a tour of the property.  On this tour you will explore the unique Baru river valley, decorated with beautiful bedrock formations and stunning natural terrain.

After a 30 minute ride in a 4x4 vehicle and a 7 minute walk from where the vehicle drops you off to the waterfalls. You’ll be at Nauyaca Falls where there is plenty of time to enjoy the breath-taking two-tiered waterfalls – considered by some people as the most beautiful falls in Costa Rica. You also can swim in the 20 feet deep natural pools, take a sun tan, dive from the waterfall cliffs, or simply relax in the sun and have a wonderful time in this magical paradise. 

                   
After this tour, we will make a Stop at Reptilandia Park, which offers the largest and most diverse exhibition of Reptiles in Costa Rica. You will enjoy this tour at your own pace while you learn about these beautiful creatures. They can be examined safely from close-up and they are exhibited simulating their natural habitat as much as possible.  When you stroll down the walking paths you can also enjoy the beautiful plants, flowers, and trees in the botanical garden.

Some of the over 90 species of reptiles that you can watch at Reptilandia Park are:

Giant African Tortoises, LANKA the only Komodo dragon in exhibition in Central America; Shakira the Anaconda, big Pitons and Boa constrictor snakes, crocodiles, frogs, and baby turtles, and baby snakes in the nursery.

Also included is a Stop for lunch in a restaurant on the route to UVITA.

Uvita Beach

For this day, we have included a whale and dolphin watching tour – which is a “must do” tour if you are visiting UVITA.

We will visit the famous Punta Uvita Whale’s Tail landmark, the Ballena Island, the Tres Hermanas (Three sisters) Islets and the Ventanas Sea caves.  During this tour we search for Humpback Whales (seasonally) and two different species of resident dolphins. When granted the opportunity, you might see and hear the song of the Humpback Whales and or observe the acrobatic displays of the dolphins making this trip the  best whale watching tour in Costa Rica. Other species that are seen occasionally during this tour are: Bryde’s whales, Pilot whales, False Killer whales and Whales sharks.

We will also visit the coral and rock reefs to snorkel and observe the wonderful marine wildlife of the Marino Ballena National Park. While cruising in the boat you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the coast line of UVITA and observe the diversity of shore and pelagic birds nesting in the Islets of the park. Later we will visit Ventanas beach where you can observe wonderful rocky formations and the amazing caverns that were carved out by the ocean and tectonic movements over thousands of years.
 
The humpback whales visit the waters of Costa Rica and the Marino Ballena National Park between mid-July and late October (Southern Humpback Whales), and again in mid December through late March (Northern Humpback Whales) as they migrate to and from feeding and mating grounds.
 
This tour includes transportation, snorkeling equipment, bottle of water, fruits, professional naturalist guide, park entrance fee, and lunch.

Pick-up time for this tour is at 7:55 AM in the lobby of Hotel Vista Ballena. You will be back in Uvita at 12:30 PM with the rest of the afternoon at your leisure for relaxing, having lunch and enjoy beautiful Uvita beach and explore the Marino Ballena National Park on your own.

Manuel Antonio Beach

At 10 AM, after breakfast, you will be transported to the beautiful Manuel Antonio beach on the central pacific coast of Costa Rica. This is a 90 minute drive from Uvita. However we have included Stops at the following places – on the route to Manuel Antonio:

A Stop at the Uvita waterfall to enjoy the views of the site and maybe take a bath in the natural pools. We will also visit the Uvita’s Bamboo Forest for a quick tour of the property.

Later we’ll visit the quaint surf town of Dominical – located a 30 minute drive west from Uvita – with plenty of free time to enjoy the beach and take a bath in the sea.  Having lunch at popular Tortilla Flat Restaurant – which is included to the package - and maybe do some shopping at the “vendor alley” where you will see an assortment of typical arts and crafts manufactured by the local artists.

 
Upon your arrival in Manuel Antonio, you will check in at the Hotel Mono Azul. Here you will have accommodations in a spacious deluxe room featuring two double size beds, or a King bed and a twin bed, plus a private bathroom with hot water shower and hair dryer, air conditioning, cable TV, and free wi-fi internet access, coffee maker, and safety box.  Also included is a daily continental or Costa Rican style breakfast.

At 11:30 AM, you will join a guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park.  We will take you through nature trails to see the flora and fauna including monkeys, sloths and many species of birds in the impressive rain forest.

Included are the transportation, the park entrance fee, a professional naturalist guide, and a fruit platter and a smoothie that will be served at the end of the tour.

What to bring for this tour: comfortable clothing and shoes, bathing suit, sun lotion, and camera.

After the tour, you will have free time to enjoy of the beautiful white sand beach and the clear blue waters of Manuel Antonio.

You will be back to the hotel at 6 pm, with the rest of the day at your leisure.

Montezuma Beach

At 8:10 AM, after breakfast, you will be transported to Herradura Beach.  This is a 90 minute ride by deluxe van.

In Herradura beach, we will take a speed boat to Montezuma Beach, leaving at 10 AM.  This is a 60 minute panoramic boat ride crossing over the beautiful Gulf of Nicoya.

Upon your arrival in Montezuma, you will check in at the Sun Trails Lodge. Here you will have accommodations in a spacious deluxe room featuring a king size bed or two queen beds, bathroom with hot water shower, air conditioning, cable TV, free Wi-Fi internet access, and a balcony offering amazing views of the forest and the Pacific Ocean.  Also included is a daily continental or Costa Rican style breakfast.

At 10 am, after breakfast, you will be transported to the beautiful town of La Fortuna where the majestic Arenal Volcano lives.

This is a 5 hour ride by deluxe van, including a 1 hour Stop for lunch in a restaurant on the route.

After breakfast, you will join a rafting tour on the rapids class II, III and IV of the Balsa River.

We’ll drive for about 60 minutes from the Los Lagos Resort to the embarking place.  Here your guides will explain the safety procedures and safety equipment before embarking down the river.  You will enjoy up to 2 exhilarating hours of white water action on this beautiful tropical river, get wet through rapids such as the "Magnetic Rock" and the "Dredges", enjoy a swim in the river’s natural pools, plus some fresh tropical fruits and cold drinks and a succulent Costa Rican style  lunch will be served at the end of tour.

After breakfast, you will join a trip to Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge – a RAMSAR site and the third most important wetland in the planet – which it is located near the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

This tour includes a 90 minute drive in an air-conditioned bus through the north zone of Costa Rica´s farmlands - each way.

A professional naturalist guide will point out some of Costa Rica´s agricultural bounty, including orange groves, passion fruit, papaya, pineapple, yucca, rice, corn, bananas, plantain, sugar cane and ornamental plants. Later you will board a comfortable covered boat on the River Frio for a 2 hour panoramic river tour.  Frequent sightings include three types of monkeys, bats, sloths, iguanas, “Jesus Christ” lizards, turtles, caimans, and a wide array of exotic birds.

San Jose City

The breakfast at the hotel is included for this morning.

At 10 AM, you will be transported back to San Jose city. On the way to San Jose, we will make a 2 hour Stop in the City of Sarchi – the Costa Rican capital of the ox cart manufacturing and other forms of handcrafting and art – with free time for lunch on your own and shopping of souvenirs manufactured by the local artisans.

Later we will visit Downtown San Jose, for a quick tour of the modern capital city of Costa Rica.

Drop-off will be at the Best Western Plus hotel, at 6 PM.

After checking-in at the hotel, the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Also included for this night is a “Farewell Dinner” to celebrate the success of this tour and all the good times the group has shared together.

At your convenience, you will be transported to the San Jose international airport for your return flight.
